Those accused include retired TDO Gunvantlal Bhavsar, former TDO Chandu Ninama, who is presently deputy DDO, Vadodara district panchayat, and Anil Modi, who was sarpanch of Pandarwada village between February 2002 to July 2003.
A complaint has been filed against 14 persons, including Gujarat government officials and a village sarpanch, for allegedly swindling Rs38 lakh meant for the 2002 post-Godhra riot victims of Khanpur taluka in Panchmahal, police said today.
Deputy district development officer (DDO) Bhupensinh Bhabhore filed the complaint yesterday at Bakor police station in Khanpur against government officials who had held various positions from Taluka development officer (TDO) and assistant TDO, to clerk between 2002-2009, they said.
Those accused include retired TDO Gunvantlal Bhavsar, former TDO Chandu Ninama, who is presently deputy DDO, Vadodara district panchayat, and Anil Modi, who was sarpanch of Pandarwada village between February 2002 to July 2003.
All persons have been accused of cheating, forgery, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.
The fraud came to light after some of the riot victims complained that they have not received compensation as declared by the state government.
Following the complaint, inquiry into the matter revealed that funds had been swindled off by the government officials, police said adding that investigation into the matter was on and no arrests have been made yet.
According to the complaint, the accused swindled Rs38.25 lakh by allegedly forging documents and creating false identities of the riot victims. They submitted fake documents, collected the cheque and deposited it in other accounts, it said.
The complaint further said that all the accused connived with each other to prepare fake documents and flouted government rules and regulations to swindle the money.
Other accused are Hakji Bhabhor, (retd) former TDO, Piyush Makwana, ex-TDO, at present TDO Santrampur, Kirit Shah, (retd) ex-TDO, Indrajitsinh Raul, ex-addl engineer, Mahendra Joshi, ex junior clerk, Moti Damor ex-addl engineer, Govind Vankar, former addl engineer, Jayanti Patel, ex TDO, Sabirhussain Rasool, senior clerk, JJ Joshi, incharge deputy accountant, and Gulam Kharadi, a resident of Pandarwada village.
