Guess whom are the traffic cops targeting to make you follow traffic rules?  Well it is none other than your children. For, in an attempt to inculcate traffic sense in them and to send across the message that traffic rules are important, the department plans to show school and college students films on the subject.

So the next time you skip that red light, be prepared for a long lecture from your kid even if you manage to escape the traffic cop.

A video CD, on traffic education, produced by the Gujarat Police in Gandhinagar has been sent to all districts of the state, including Ahmedabad. Piyush Patel, the district superintendent of police in Gandhinagar, has produced the films while Pramod Gadhvi, a freelance film maker has conceptualised, scripted and directed it.

"This film is meant to spread awareness about traffic rules and to improve the traffic sense of the people. The films have already been shown in schools and colleges of some districts of the state," Patel told DNA. He further said that, we have tried to convey the message through children.

The film is basically meant to sensitise families about the need to follow traffic rules. "Children will act as the messengers informing adults about why helmet is a must and why talking on the mobile while driving is not such a great idea," Patel said.

There are five short films in the DVD titled Traffic Education.
The main objective of the entire project is to spread awareness through the medium of multimedia. "We have focused on factors that are responsible for many of the accidents. We have tried to communicate this issue through the short films," Gadhvi said. Gadhvi has worked on various such multimedia projects that deal with such issues. He is also focusing on making more such films on traffic awareness.

Sources in the police department said that the director general of police has asked that the five short films, which also includes two animation films, be shown in all districts of the state.

“The concerned district superintendent of polices have been informed to show these short films on traffic awareness in their districts," the source said.

The films will be shown on cable network as well as in schools, colleges and even in theatres.  These films will also be screened in the 'Manav Bachao-Vishwa Bachao' programme being organised on July 5, 2009 on CG Road.
