Fifty quintals of spurious sweets seized in Punjab

A team of district health officials today claimed to have seized 50 quintals of spurious sweets from a shop here, officials said.
    
Acting on a tip off, Basti Bawa Khel area was raided and spurious sweets were recovered, civil surgeon Dr S S Walia, told reporters here adding that the department recently swung into action to check unscrupulous traders.
    
"The department raided on RS Petha and Patisa house and took samples of huge quantity of prepared spurious khoya burfi, patisa, milk cake," he added.
    
District health officer Dr Roop Lal said they have taken the samples of the sweets and sent to Chandigarh for testing. After getting reports from the laboratory, necessary action would be taken against owners of sweet shop, he added.
