Fencers return home after swine flu treatment

Four Indian fencers, who had returned from Singapore with swine flu, were today discharged from the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital after being given the necessary treatment, along with their coach who tested negative.

"All the children were discharged from the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital today. They are healthy and ready to return to their native states," Arun Kumar Vij, secretary general of the Fencing Association of India, said.

Manipur duo of Rabi Kumar and Edenchanu, Tamil Nadu's Nitin and Patiala's Parmeet Kaur had tested positive for the H1N1 virus on their return from the Asian Junior and Cadet Championship in Singapore.Vij said coach Lalit Kumar has tested negative.

"Lalit Kumar's report has also come negative. Naturally this news has brought relief," he said.

More than 30 Indian fencers, along with their coaches, had gone to Singapore to participate in the championship held from July 15 to 21.

They returned on the night of July 22 and probably got infected from a fellow passenger. They were screened at the airport and their body temperature showed symptoms of the flu.
