The police today busted a racket involving issuance of fake voters identity cards and various other documents including various examination certificates.

The racket, in operation for two years, was busted following the arrest of Mir Abdul Samim, who used to hand over a fake voters ID card in just half an hour against a payment of Rs 500, from the heart of the town, the police said.

Many of his clients were from Bengali-speaking migrants from Mahakalpada and Rajnagar tehsil, he said adding some of them were also Bangladeshi infiltrators living in the coastal hamlets, the sources said.

The fake documents given by Samim came in handy for migrant settlers to obtain residential and nativity certificates, the sources said.

It is believed that criminals are also regular clients of Samim, who officially dealt with rubber stamps, for hassle-free availability of fake voters ID cards to avail SIM cards at will.

More arrests are expected as information collected from Samim indicated a well-knit racket, sources said.
