A businessman from Satellite area was cheated of Rs43 lakh by a conman posing as the trustee of a Ram temple located in Sarghasan village, Gandhinagar. In an FIR lodged with the Ellisbridge police earlier this month, the businessman, Rishabh Jain, has stated that one Arvind Aacharya, who claimed to be a trustee of the temple, had promised to make him a trustee as well if he donated to the temple trust.

Jain has stated in the FIR that Acharya had requested him to help the temple trust get funds. When he was convinced of the genuineness of the trust, Jain paid Rs43 lakh to the temple trust.

The confidence trickster, assisted by two other people, had collected the money from him in several installments between March 2010 and October 2010.

In January this year, Jain received a notice from the Charity Commissioner, Gandhinagar, to remain present in connection with a case related to the temple. When an excited Jain went to the office of the Charity Commissioner, he saw another man who was introduced to him as Arvind Aacharya. It was then that he realized that he had been taken for a ride.

The cheated businessman had first filed a complaint before the magistrate court in Gandhinagar. The court ordered a police inquiry and asked the police to submit a report in 60 days.

Meanwhile, Jain had also lodged a complaint with the Ellisbridge police against the three conmen under sections 406, 420, 468, 471, and 120 (B) of Indian Penal Code.
