An international racket of Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) may well be at play. The recent FICN scam having links with West Bengal clearly indicates at international connections, including Bangladesh and Nepal. Sources said that the counterfeit currency reaches Bangladesh through sea route from Dubai.

"Of course, the penetration of FICN in Indian market is an international racket," a source close to the development told DNA.

According to sources in Gujarat police, FICNs are printed in Pakistan, most probably in Karachi. The FICNs are printed on the good quality paper and are very similar to the genuine Indian currency, as the paper and ink is allegedly procured by both the countries from the same agency.

Police sources in Gujarat ATS said that the quality of counterfeit currency notes seized by the Gujarat cops so far in different rackets in last few years is good and it is difficult to make out the difference between a genuine and a fake note with naked eyes.

"Once printed in Karachi, the FICN are brought into India mainly through sea and land routes. The land border connecting to Gujarat and Rajasthan is used to smuggle in FICN," the source said.

Borders of West-Bengal as well as Bihar are used to pour the FICN into the Indian markets from Bangladesh and Nepal respectively. Sometimes, FICN is also brought in through Sri Lanka.

Police sources also said that, once within the Indian borders, FICNs are distributed to agents across the country on the basis of information provided by ‘resident agents.’
