Almost 70 cases of fake cops looting people of jewellery have been reported in city in the last seven months and city police have detect only three of them.

However, in a bid to make some headway in the probe in these cases, police have obtained photographs of suspects and go to the houses of victims with them for identification.

Rajivranjan Bhagat, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), zone-I, said that they have obtained photographs of 200 members of Irani gang from Maharashtra police.

The members of this Maharastra-based gang are notorious for posing as cops and swiftly looting generally senior citizens of their jewellery.

In Ahmedabad, most of these cases have been reported in areas like Vastrapur, Navrangpura, Memnagar, Sabarmati, Satellite etc.

The DCP added that these photographs will be sent to nine police stations falling under zone-I. Instead of the usual practice of calling the victims to police station for identifying accused or suspects, police will go to their homes as most of the victims are senior citizens.

"Police officers will go with these photographs to victims' house for identification,” he said.
