Sanand police on Friday busted a gang that used to cheat Anganwadi workers by posing as senior government officials. Police arrested Raju Prajapati, 30, and Shital Makwana, 22, alias Sita in this case. However, a 40-year-old woman identified as leader of the gang is still at large.

According to police, Prajapati and Makwana used to pose as senior government officials inspecting anganwadi work at Shitla village in Sanand taluka. They extracted money, pointing out irregularities in their work.

"However, when the anganwadi workers asked the duo to sign a document about their visit, they refused to do so,” said a police official. This arose suspicion among the workers who subsequently informed police regarding their activities, added the official.

When investigating the duo, police learnt that another woman was part of their gang. Police are on the lookout for this woman identified as 40-year-old Madhuben who lives in Sanand.
