Experts collect more samples from Varanasi blast site

As a part of investigation, an explosive expert from Gujarat today examined the blast site at Dasashwamedha ghat in Varanasi and collected samples, a senior officer said in Lucknow.

"We are taking cooperation of various agencies as part of which an explosive expert from Gujarat visited the blast site in Varanasi and collected samples," additional director general (ADG) of police Brij Lal told reporters.

He said that ATS and STF teams were already working on the case with the cooperation of NIA team.

"Examination of samples collected by FSL Agra is yet to complete and the report is likely in next two-three days," he said.

After a close examination of video footage and photographs taken before and after the blast, it was clear that the explosive was not planted in a cavity or during repair work.

"We collected the video footage from an Italian tourist, present at the spot, and it confirmed that the explosive was not hidden beneath the rock," Brij Lal said.

He said the video footage before and after the blast was carefully examined before arriving at the conclusion.

Besides, the ADG said, no splinter or shrapnel was used in the explosive.

Meanwhile, he said detailed directives on security measures had been issued to police chiefs of district having sensitive and religious places, especially Allahabad, Gorakhpur and Mathura.

"The directives were issued by the director general of police and principal secretary home through video conferencing last night," he said.
