The pressure of the coming science exams has claimed the life of a young boy. A twelfth science student of the city committed suicide by hanging himself in his bedroom due to fear of failing in the board examination.

Nimith Modi of New Samarth School in Satellite, dreaded his studies so much that he slipped into a depression and stopped talking to anyone in his house. “He was extremely scared of the exams and he took his own life two months before the examination,” the investigating officer, Dashrath Patel, told DNA.

Modi was a resident of Sunflower Bungalows in Sola Road and son of Jagdish Modi who is working in the postal department. “Nimith ate his lunch in the afternoon on Friday, and locked himself in his bedroom,” Patel told DNA.

The relatives thought that he was sleeping in his room but the youngster had actually hanged himself in his room. When the door remained closed for a long time, his anxious relatives broke it open only to find Nimith's dead body dangling from the ceiling.
Nimith had told his parents earlier that he was not able to cope with his studies and feared that he may not clear the board exams. “The parents advised him to take a drop this year and give the exams next year,” Patel said.

The principal of the school, RS Mahadevia, said, “It's a shocking incident for us as well. But we are also surprised that we haven't been informed about it by the parents. Nimith was a bright student. If I am not wrong, he had scored 77% marks in the Xth standard. This is a very sad incident for the entire school as everyone is shocked after learning about it.”
