Non-payment of a paltry sum of Rs1,000 drove a former employee with a recovery agency to murder his manager. The incident came to light late on Wednesday night. Ellisbridge police are investigating the matter.

Kamlesh Patel, an employee who witnessed the horrific incident, has lodged a complaint with Ellisbridge police station stating that Mansinh Rathore murdered his manager Surendra Sharma on Wednesday evening.

Two months ago, Odhav-resident Rathore was employed as a computer operator with Shivam Agency, a recovery firm for ICICI Bank. He, however, was fired from the job after working for one and half months.

As final monetary settlement with Rathore, Shivam Agency paid the accused one month's salary but refused to compensate him for 4-6 days of extra work. This became a matter of dispute between Rathore and the agency.

Rathore visited the agency's office to recover his dues, along with one his accomplices on Wednesday evening. Rathod's ulterior motives were clear as he was also carrying a steel pipe with him which he kept out of the agency's premises.

As it was evening, only two people were in the office - Sharma and Patel. Rathore soon entered into an argument with Sharma asking him to pay Rs1,000 as his dues. Sharma tried to calm him down but Rathore refused to buy his arguments and slapped him on the spot.

A bitter fight ensued among the duo. The tussle pushed both of them towards the office door where Rathore had kept the steel pipe. He swiftly picked the rod and jabbed it on Sharma's head repeatedly. Patel, who stood spectator thus far, tried to save his friend now but was attacked by Rathore.

No one could help Sharma and Patel as most shops were closed in the area. Rathore and his friend fled the spot soon leaving an injured Sharma at the office.

Patel soon rushed Sharma to VS Hospital and then lodged a complaint with Ellisbridge police station against Rathore in the matter.

"Sharma succumbed to fatal head injuries during treatment. Doctors pronounced him dead at 11.30pm. Rathore is now believed to have fled to his native village in Rajasthan," said BK Purohit, senior police inspector with Ellisbridge police station.
