The engine and the first three coaches of 14321 up Bereli-Bhuj Express derailed at Bhuj railway station when the brakes of the train failed as it was approaching the station. According to sources, the train was moving at a speed of around 80 kmph, when the driver applied the brakes, but it did not work.

He then applied emergency brakes and the impact of sudden brake at this speed caused the derailment of the engine and the first three bogies. Bhuj railway station chief SM Jonewala said that efforts were on to remove the derailed engine and that all the trains for various destination would be leaving Bhuj on schedule.

The tri-weekly train was on the last leg of its more than 1,000 km of its journey on Tuesday when the accident took place. However, official sources claimed that none of the 30 to 40 passengers travelling in those bogies sustained any kind of injury. The driver also escaped unhurt.

Sources said that driver Harichan and guard Anilkumar Kataria had been suspended with immediate effect. However, there was no official confirmation about this. Gandhidham-based area railway manager of Western Railway, Madhukar Rout, said that an inquiry had been ordered into the accident.
