Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today emphasised need for energy efficiency planning for economic growth, while inaugurating a seminar here today.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the seminar on Energy Efficiency and Thermal Audit, Modi said that in Gujarat one needs to work with mantra of modernisation without westernisation.

Explaining his statement, Modi said though science is universal, it was of no use if it cannot be applied locally.

"Instead of copying others, one should try to do value addition. Science is universal, but its success is when the technology developed has local application," Modi said, adding that there is need to develop technology as per one's requirements and needs.

"With mantra of modernisation without westernisation we can do lot of things," he added.

Modi further claimed that whatever environmental damage has been done in the past 300 years can be repaired in the next 30 years if there is no further exploitation.

He also blamed the developed nation for ignoring the problem of climate change and global warming earlier.

"It is because of threat of global warming that the world has started looking at green energy, energy efficiency and thermal audit," he said.

Modi further said that Denmark was now working toward becoming fossil fuel free by 2050.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador of Denmark Freddy Svane said that energy efficiency was the key in today's world for economic development.

"In Denmark we have managed to grow our economy by 100 per cent through the efficient energy consumption in the state," he said, adding that thermal audits were important for a green mission for which there has to be guidelines, norms and standards in place.

Svane was hopeful," One day we will see, the world, starting with Gujarat, becoming fossil fuel free. It is a vision and a mission," he said.
