Encephalitis death toll touches 269 in Uttar Pradesh

Three more children succumbed to Japanese encephalitis as the death toll from the dreaded disease in the eastern region of Uttar Pradesh this year rose to 269.

As many as 1589 people had been afflicted with the brain fever in Gorakhpur, Basti and other districts of eastern UP since January, additional director (health) UK Srivastava said.

0f these, 269 had succumbed to the disease with three children dying since last evening, he said.
