Shock wave gripped residents of Amli village located behind Rajpath Club after the body of an elderly man, who had gone missing since Thursday afternoon, was found in a 100-ft-long gutter line on Friday evening.  His body was found by one of his sons who then informed the Vastrapur police station.

According to ACP VR Toliya 65-year-old Popat Vala Bharwad, a resident of Abhimanyu Farm house, was found in the gutter line by his relatives. He lived just few meters away from the scene of crime. Prima facie, he said, it looked like the victim was murdered as the body bore injuries on the head and right year.  Toliya said at present they are trying to investigate how and why the man was killed.

Another thing puzzling the cops is that whoever killed the victim removed his jewellery but left untouched the Rs2300 that was in the victim's pocket.

The police have lodged a case of murder (IPC-302) and destruction of evidence (IPC-202). Police said that the family members first found Bharwad's snuff box near the gutter line. They then got suspicious and began looking in it when they found the body.

Several senior police officials including deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Brajesh Jha and Vastrapur police station inspector SB Trivedi rushed to the crime scene along with their investigative teams and dog squad.

Bharwad was living with his family in Abhimanyu Farm house which belongs to one Elesh Patel. "Bharwad had been living in the farm for last 12 years. He had no enemies," said Elesh Patel. According to police, Bharwad was a watchman for Gomit Bungalows and was drawing around Rs2500 per month as salary.
