Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal today refuted opposition's charge that the Congress was trying to "communalise" Uttar Pradseh polls, and said the matter concerning his cabinet colleague Salman Khurshid would settle down soon.

"Salman Khurshid had expressed his opinion and Election Commission has opposed it ... the matter would settle down...Salman has already spoken on the issue, there is nothing for me to say on it," Sibal told news-persons here.

He rejected that there is an attempt to communally politicise the issue, and said that he would not give headlines to media by elaborating it.

Law Minister Salman Khurshid has drawn flak from the Opposition for his remarks on minorities sub-quota and alleged defiance of EC with BJP demanding his sacking and accusing Congress of working on a well "scripted conspiracy" to "communalise" UP polls.

On February 11, the EC had sought "immediate and decisive" intervention of the President after it charged Khurshid with "improper and unlawful" defiance of its orders under which he was censured for promising sub-quota for minorities.

The Commission took the unprecedented decision after Khurshid had told an election rally in UP on Friday night that he would continue to pursue the line on nine percent sub-quota for minorities 'even if they (EC) hang me'.

The HRD minister alleged that UP chief minister Mayawati was against farmers, dalits, industry, health and education and cited figures of National Crime Record Bureau among others to stress his point.

Sibal also demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities into the Teacher's Eligibility Test (TET) scam in UP.
