Duplicate cloth units in Ahmedabad raided, one arrested

The errant units were found to be selling blouse pieces under the brand name of Arvind Mills.

The Kagdapith police arrested a man for selling cloth under a popular brand name. The arrest came after raids on several units in the New Cloth Market. The cops were assisted in the exercise by members of the Enforcers of Intellectual Property Rights (EIPR).

The errant units were found to be selling blouse pieces under the brand name of Arvind Mills.

The police also arrested one Prashant Shah, a member of the Ghabtakarna Mahavir Comm. Market.

Further investigation revealed that Shah had been supplying duplicate Arvind fabric at a very low price to several dealers for last two to three years.

The police also recovered 620 pirated hologram stickers of Arvind Mills, 10 screen printing dyes, 1010 brand stickers, 260 and 5259 meters of blouse piece fabric of brand Arvind.

Shah allegedly also admitted to making dyes, monogram and packing material similar to that of Arvind Ltd to mislead consumers.

The police also found that the counterfeit goods were dispatched only during weekends and that too in vehicles which did not have number plates so to prevent them from being identified.
