The guests also beat up policemen who were called to end the fighting; the cops later arrested 10 of them.
In a bizarre incident, guests who had arrived to attend the wedding of two sisters in the Maninagar area on Saturday suddenly began to fight. Two policemen were injured in the clashes and many other people were hurt. The police later arrested 10 guests many of whom were allegedly drunk.
A resident of Khokhra had booked the party plot, Shardaben ni Vadi, in Maninagar for the wedding of his two daughters. Since the wedding of both the sisters was to be solemnised at the same place, guests of both the grooms had gathered there. While the guests of one groom had come from Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh, the other groom had come with his guests from
Bapunagar.
While the wedding rituals of both the sisters were going on, some guests of the Ratlam groom (mainly youths) had a spat with the guests of the groom from Bapunagar over some trivial issue. This minor quarrel suddenly turned violent when some guests assaulted those from the other group.
The fighting became more violent as more people from both the sides entered in to the scuffle. This alerted the relatives of both the brides and the grooms who till then were busy with the rituals.
Meanwhile, the manager of the party plot, Rajiv Somani, rushed to the scene to calm everyone but he too got beaten up by the guests. To help Somani, some of his employees rushed in but they too received the same treatment from the guests. Finding the situation getting out of hand, someone from among the employees called the police.
The police did not find it easy to control the guests either. When they arrived, more than 10 guests attacked them and injured two policemen, Ram Naresh and Pravin. When the control room learnt of the situation, more policemen were sent to the scene. The police arrested 10 guests for attacking the police and causing ruckus.
The arrested guests include Vijay, Lalchand, Jagdish, Rajesh, Rajendra, Jitendra, Kamlesh, Govardhan, Dipak and Hemant.
