Estranged younger son-in-law of actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi, Girish Bhardwaj suffered a jolt with the Supreme Court’s refusal to allow him to avail the anticipatory bail in the dowry harassment case.
Rejecting Bhardwaj’s plea for anticipatory bail on the ground that the two families were now about to arrive at an amicable settlement, the court on Monday directed him to surrender before the court concerned in Hyderabad.

Not impressed with the plea, judges told the accused that it would put “unwarranted pressure’’ on the system. “For one individual, you will have to make special arrangements,” the court said.
“If you have money, then it does not mean that there would be special provisions for you’’, an anguished bench added.
It was not convinced that Shirish was falsely implicated by his estranged wife Srija, Chiranjeeve’s daughter, under IPC section 498A (harassment) and various dowry-related offences. He alleged gross abuse of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
However, judges said parliament is already seized of the issue of misuse of Dowry Prohibition Act and when the legislature has the time, it would consider the law.
“There are already so many matters pending before them,” the bench added. Sirish’s counsel submitted his father-in-law was not “happy” with the marriage and all was happening on his directions only.
He had moved the apex court after the Andhra Pradesh High court that dismissed his bail plea in April last.
