Relatives of victims of Mumbai’s 13/7 terror attack recuperating at Sir JJ Group of Hospitals have been asked not to discuss the Delhi blast with them.

The hospital administration has advised relatives of the six injured patients not to talk about Wednesday attack. One of the patients is in the Intensive Care Unit.

Dr TP Lahane, dean, Sir JJ hospital, said, “Every day when I am in the hospital or on the campus, I meet the blast victims and their relatives to discuss the progress of their treatment.

On Thursday, we advised the relatives not to discuss the Delhi blasts in their presence. The patients are on their way to recovery and should avoid trauma of any kind. They are all fine except the patient who is still in the ICU.”

The hospital still has six patients who were injured in Zaveri Bazar blast. Mohan Gautam, Dalpatan Dave, Kamal Dolui and Ramesh Khedekar who suffered severe burns will need plastic surgery. Doctors in the plastic surgery department are waiting for the wounds to heal so that they can start their procedures.

Prashant Joshi, who is in the ICU, is the only victim to be admitted at the hospital on the day of the blast. He has multiple injuries on the body, apart from a fractured frontal bone.

Another patient, Hiralal kamat, who was in the neurosurgery recovery ward, had multiple injuries. He is recovering from a loss of sensation that he suffered after a foreign body got lodged inside his spine during the blast.

Dr Shubhangi Parkar, head of the psychiatry department, KEM Hospital, said, “We don’t want the traumatic memories to come back. It is better not to discuss an issue like the blast in front of the injured.”

Manoj Kamat, brother of Hiralal Kamat who was injured in the blast, said, “After the blast in Delhi, some people in the hospital ward were discussing the incident. But I have not spoken to Hiralal on the blasts; even he has not asked me anything about it. Why should we talk about things that will only increase his painful memories of the blast? He does not read a newspaper, so it is unlikely he will know about the blasts otherwise.”
