Ghulam Rasool Malik alias Aftab, a top militant of Hizbul Mujahideen was apprehended jointly by the troops of 13 Rashtriya Rifles and local police at Shahgund-Sonawari, 35 kms from here around 5 pm.

A self-styled district commander of Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit was arrested in Bandipora district of North Kashmir today, Army said.
Ghulam Rasool Malik alias "Aftab", a resident of Pattan, was arrested from village Shahgund-Hajin in Sonawari area, 35 kms from here, by a joint party of 13 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group of local police, defence spokesman Lt Col J S Brar told PTI.
He said Malik was functioning as the district commander of Hizbul Mujahideen and was arrested on a specific information.
An AK 47 rifle, two grenades besides war-like material was recovered from his possession, Brar said.
