Keeping retail sector at bay, Dev Group, which constructed Dev Arc Mall two years back on SG Highway, has converted its 10,000 square feet retail space into discotheque with the capacity of hosting 500 people at a go. Under the brand name of Retro, the city’s biggest disc would be open only for private parties and not for public.
With many discotheques closing down in last 10 years, the city is left with only a few of them. Party goers and disc jockeys blame prohibition on alcohol for the closure of discotheques in city.
Notwithstanding these facts, Dev Group is counting on change in the attitude of Amdavadis. “Discotheque, spread over an area of 10,000 square feet will also offer food and beverages. Earlier, people used to demand liquor in parties but now Amdavadis have started accepting parties without liquor” said Niral Shah, general manager of Dev Arc Mall.
Targeting corporate companies and youth, Dev Arc Mall is expecting huge demand for private parties at the disc, which is officially opening in the last week of this month. “On SG Highway, this will be the only discotheque with security arrangement,” he said.
Despite located at a prime location, Dev Arc Mall which has 3.5 lakh square feet space is occupied 50% only. “Recently, around 27,000 square feet area in ground floor was sold to garments shop, New York City targeting premium segment. While on third floor, 10,000 square feet area has been developed as discotheque. After including disc and the shop, the mall occupancy is at 50%,” said Shah.
