Welcoming the Centre's decision to hand over certain powers of MCD to Delhi Government, chief minister Sheila Dikshit today said it will help reduce the multiplicity of authorities and improve efficiency.

Dikshit said the decision is intended to ensure a much better coordination between the MCD and Delhi Government in implementing various projects.

Addressing the concluding session of a 'Bhagidari' workshop, she also clarified that the role of elected representatives in the civic body would continue to remain as it is of now.

The three-day workshop was attended by RWAs from South and South-West districts apart from senior officials from MCD, DJB, Delhi Police and private discoms.

Dikshit further stated that gains of 'Bhagidari' workshops are visible as a "sea change has taken place in delivery of civic services".

The chief minister has been interacting regularly through video conferencing with common people to know about their problems.

She also stated that an amount of Rs 50 lakh per year is being released to RWAs to carry out development works.

The chief minister also called upon RWAs to take active part in enhancing the green cover in Delhi.

This would help in showcasing Delhi during the Commonwealth Games, she said.

Dikshit also called for inculcating a better civic sense among people and exhorted RWAs to build up an atmosphere to make the Commonwealth Games a great success.
