Vinod Pandya, an RTI activist, has alleged mass scale corruption during Sabarmati Marathon-2010, organised by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Ahmedabad Runner Club. According to Pandya, the officials have siphoned off crores of rupees by accepting money from people who were never on the official list of donors.

On Saturday, Pandya filed his complaint in the form of an application, at Satellite police station. Through his application, he asked the police to probe the mater and file an FIR against all the accused involved in the alleged scam. He has put several top office-bearers of AMC in the dock, including municipal commissioner Guruprasad Mohapatra, former municipal commissioner I P Gautam, Dy municipal commissioner Dilip Mahajan and president of Ahmedabad Runner Club Vishwas Bhambukar. Apart from them, Pandya also put allegations on seven others.

According to Pandya, all of them have siphoned off money by making bogus documents. Pandya alleged that these persons have accepted money from those sponsors, who were not part of the official list of sponsors, published in the advertisement in newspapers. These firms include SBI, Jade Blue, Kensville, and Sugar Free. "I have come to know they might have taken huge money from the sponsors but not put their names in the official list to siphon off that money. They even accepted the money four months after the marathon in December 2010, which also raises doubts" said Pandya.

He also alleged that the AMC officials have shown wrong figures of T shirts distributed to runners. "According to their own figures, there were 4,718 registered participant, so what is the need to distribute 13,900 T shirts?" alleged Pandya, who doubts the authenticity of these figure. He also alleged that AMC has not collected TDS on the amount paid for the work. According to MS Sindha, in-charge police inspector of Satellite, Pandya's application has been accepted and the police will probe the matter and file an FIR if needed.

However, Guruprasad Mohapatra, municipal commissioner, could not be contacted.
