A local court today summoned the family members of deputy chief medical officer (CMO) YS Sachan, who died under mysterious circumstances in a Lucknow jail, for recording their statements in connection with the judicial inquiry into the matter.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Rajesh Upadhaya, conducting judicial inquiry, asked Sachan's wife Malti Sachan, son Sankalp, daughter Manvi and brother RK Sachan to appear before the court on July 4 for recording their statements.

Meanwhile, deputy jailor Sunil Kumar Singh and prison guard Babu Ram Dubey today appeared before the CJM for recording their statement in connection with the case.

Sachan, 52, who was the main accused in the murder of chief medical officer (family welfare) BP Singh who was shot dead by unidentified persons on April 2, was found dead in the toilet of the jail hospital on June 22.

In the autopsy report nine injury marks were detected on his neck, elbows, thigh and left wrist.

The opposition has alleged that Sachan was "murdered" to save influential people in the Mayawati government and those involved in the killing of two chief medical officers. They have also demanded a CBI inquiry in the case.
