Thirty four passengers onboard a metro train on the Dwarka-Yamuna Bank line had anxious moments today when a coach jumped tracks due to a "manual error" by the driver.

No one was injured in the incident that occured in the afternoon.

Metro authorities pinned the blame on the train driver at the Dwarka station in south-west Delhi, saying it occured due to a "manual error" by him.

He should not have started the train at that time because there was no signal, they said.
The accident occured exactly a month after six persons were killed when an under-construction bridge at its construction site in south Delhi's Zamrudpur area collapsed.

"There was no serious damage to permanent way, overhead traction or the train as the front wheels came less than six inches off the track," Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.

He added that as the train was travelling at a speed of 10-15 kmph there was no damage.

Four wheels of the train's front coach went off the rails soon after it started from the station, Dayal said adding the train, which was headed towards Yamuna Banks, travelled about 30 metres beyond the point.

"Prima facie, cause of the derailment appears to be the driver starting the train on the manual mode without waiting for ATP actualization and crossed the signal at danger," Dayal said.

The derailed coach was put on track and the train moved by 6.10 pm, the spokesman said, adding that it was lifted by using jacks.

"The OCR is being tested and after which, traffic on the line will be restored," he said.
The Train no. 5015 starting from down platform of Dwarka station towards Yamuna Bank burst point no. 311-J which was set against the train and the front bogie (set of four wheels) of the leading D 313 burst through the point, derailed and travelled about 30 metres beyond the point, Dayal said.

He said, the driver has been working on trains independently since September 2008. He joined duty only at 14.55 hours and this was his first trip.

Metro traffic from Dwarka to Janakpuri was affected due to the mishap, a commuter claimed.

The Metro personnel at ticket counters in Dwarka were seen suggesting to people to take buses as normalisation of services could take a little time.

"The accident happened near pillar no: 822. I heard a loud noise and then saw people coming out of train using emergency doors. Some concrete parts also fell down," Dilsukh Gehlot, a local, said.
