Justice Neeraj Kishan Kaul, a sitting judge of the Delhi High Court, has resigned citing personal reasons.

Kaul, 46, had taken oath as an additional judge of the High Court on April 15.

He said that he sent his resignation letter to the president yesterday. He had on July 24 sent his resignation letter to the chjef Justice of India KG Balakrishnan.

"I felt I enjoyed private practice more," he said.

He clarified that there was no other reason behind the decision. "I felt I was better suited for a lawyer's job and I never wanted to impose myself for the Constitutional post," he said, adding that he will be renew his practice in the High Courts and Supreme Court.

"I was appointed as an additional judge and my judgeship was not confirmed. So I can practice in Supreme Court as well as in High Courts," he said.

He said that no formal acceptance of his resignation as an additional judge was required to relieve him from the post.

This is the second time that a sitting judge of the High Court has resigned in the last two decades. Justice ML Verma had resigned from the judgeship in 1991 within a year of being elevated to the bench.
