Consumers in Delhi and Maharashtra are most alert to deficiencies in products and services availed by them, according to a report of the consumer online resource & empowerment (Core), a facility of the Union government.

The Core report for May reveals that of the 1,161 consumer complaints from across the country, 21.52% were from Delhi. Maharashtra followed with 14.34%, while Karnataka, Gujarat and Rajasthan had 14.34%, 11.12%, 5.16% and 4.57% of complainants, respectively.

The report also states that the largest number of complaints pertained to the telecom sector. As many as 21% of the 1,161 complaints were against telecom companies, while services, products and the banking sector accounted for 19%, 18% and 11%, respectively.  Around 31% of the complaints pertained to miscellaneous products.

The Core centre, set up with assistance from the Union ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution, aims to provide an effective scientific system for collection and dissemination of consumer-related information.

The intervention of the centre helped Vishal Alinchandani of Mulund to get a fair deal from a telecom company recently.

The subscriber, who had been petitioning the company for seven months, over being provided a connection while there was no network coverage in his area, got relief after Core took up the matter.
