Dedicated helpline to know about Parkinson's disease

With an aim to create awareness among people about the Parkison's disease, a leading hospital today launched a dedicated helpline.

The Medicity headed by renowned surgeon Dr Naresh Trehan launched the helpline today to educate people regarding the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment options for the disease.

"The idea behind introducing this helpline is to educate the public regarding the Parkinson's disease, and how an advance in diagnosis and treatment has changed the outlook for these patients.

"We aim to break the false beliefs about PD that it is the end of the road for the patient and that they will have poor quality of life," Trehan said.

Parkinson's disease is the commonest movement disorder in man affecting one per cent of the entire population. It is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system and is characterised by tremor in hands, arms, legs, jaw, or head, rigidity, or stiffness of the body, slowness in doing daily tasks, impaired balance speech changes, sleep problems etc.

"We have also come up with a Parkinson's Disease Support group ?"- SWAVALMBAN -- to help the patients and families of patients suffering from the disease to tide over the ordeal of treatment of this disease."
