In an issue pertaining to a dispute between the family of IPS officer GL Singhal and members of Manichandra Society in Thaltej, justice MR Shah of the Gujarat high court has handed over inquiry into the matter to Brijesh Jha, deputy commissioner of police (DCP).

Justice Shah asked the DCP to look into allegations levelled by the society members claiming that they were threatened by the Singhals.

Shah also asked the DCP to inquire as to why the Ghatlodia police had not lodged a complaint despite the fact that they had already registered an FIR on behalf of Manisha, wife of GL Singhal.

Further hearing in the case will be held on December 13. The high court was hearing an application moved by members of Manichandra Society who alleged that the Ghatlodia police had not registered an FIR against Singhals.

They accused the Singhals of illegal construction in the common plot of the society.

According to them the Singhals also threatened them of dire consequences.

The society members have also sought an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Justice Shah came down heavily on the government pleader PK Jani who argued that there is no need to register an FIR as the dispute is civil in nature.

Even, the complainant failed to mention proper sections of the IPC which elaborates the offence, Jani argued.

However, protesting the argument, SV Raju, senior counsel for the society members, contended that Manisha Singhal had illegally trespassed bunglow number 10 and the common plot of the society apart for issuing threats to the complainants.

Meanwhile, Justice Shah asked why the police failed to see that there was a dispute when Singhals came to lodge an FIR against the society members.

The government should come clean on the matter as the police is already facing several accusations, Justice Shah said. "Why do you give an opportunity for accusations to be made against you? Don't you know its repercussions," he asked.

Shah also asked how can citizens be safe when threats are issued by those in position of power?
