Members of Dawoodi Bohra community staged a protest after a channel telecast their religious head performing marriage rituals of a noted international terrorist.
Members of Dawoodi Bohra community in Surat staged protest against private news channel after it allegedly telecast on Tuesday, their religious head Sayedna Saheb performing marriage rituals of noted international terrorist Baitullah Mehsud. The telecast sparked anger among the community members, who termed it as an attack on Bohra community. Community members took out a rally against the channel and submitted a memorandum to the district collector.
There was utter chaos in the residential areas of Bohra community on Tuesday. The Bohra community dominated areas like Zampha Bazaar and Bhagal were closed. The community members gathered at Zampha bazaar since morning to protest against the channel. To prevent any unwanted situation, heavy police were deployed at the area to control the mob.
More than 18,000 community members carried out a rally from Arabic University at Zampha Bazaar to Chowk, carrying banners and hoardings against the channel. Later in the day, members gave a memorandum to the district collector demanding strict action against the channel authorities. They demanded that channel should be banned in the state and country, to prevail peace and harmony.
Yusuf Badri, secretary of the community claimed that the entire clipping is a trick to defame Sayedna Saheb and said that act has hurt the feelings of the community members. Bohra Community believes in peace and none of its member can ever indulge in any anti-national activity, then how can Sayedna, said Badri.
Accoring to Badri, the clippings are manipulated by the channel. The wedding visual is that of Sayedna’s son. Someone has pasted Baitullah’s picture upon the groom’s face and portraying it as if Sayedna has performed Baitullah’s wedding rituals.
