The damaged front tyre of the Opel car, which was used by the miscreants in the gang-rape case, helped the police to trace them.

According to officials, the front left tyre of the car got punctured when the miscreants were returning from Piplod road along with the victim and the boy. However, instead of stopping for getting the puncture fixed, the rapists continued to drive, which led to the tyre getting damaged.

The boy and the victim girl told the police that it was a silver coloured Opel car and that its left front tyre was damaged. However, this description proved enough in the end. The police sent out teams to search for the car in garages across the city and found one with a damaged front left tyre in a garage in Nanpura.

The police gathered details about the car’s owner, and learnt that it belonged to PI NG Saiyed, who is presently posted at Dholka in Ahmedabad district. The police reached his house at Habibsha mohalla in Nanpura, and learnt that Saiyed’s son Shahid had taken the car. The police caught Shahid later, and he confessed to have committed the heinous crime. The rest was easy as Shahid led the police to Tariq Saiyed and Abu Bacher Shaikh, who were caught from their houses in Nanpura and Bhaga Talao areas respectively.
