Cylinder blast injures three in Ahmedabad

The Vejalpur police are investigation the case. Earlier it was believed that a mobile blast had led to the explosion.

A cylinder blast at Gurukrupa society, Vasna on Saturday morning injured a family of three and shattered the glass windows of the six adjoining buildings.

The incident happened when 50-year old Rekha Chavda entered the kitchen to make tea for her school going daughter Ankita.

When she turned the gas knob on she smelled a foul odour and decided to turn off the knob.She then decided to use a portable cooking gas stove.

The moment she lit it, a loud explosion took place. So severe was the impact that Rekha was flung off in a corner and suffered 70% injuries.

Her husband Mahipat Sinh and daughter Ankita who were asleep in the adjoining room suffered 50% and 30% injuries respectively.

The explosion created a panic in the nearby areas as glass windows of six building were shattered. The fire brigade and 108 were also informed even as the residents rushed to the ground floor residence to douse the flames.

The Vejalpur police are investigation the case. Earlier it was believed that a mobile blast had led to the explosion.

"Initial investigations revealed that the valve of the cylinder had a leak and this led to the explosion," said Vejalpur PSI MC Chawda. Incidentally, NM Gas Agency near Anjali Cross Roads had supplied the LPG cylinder just a day before on Friday.

"If found guilty, we will take action against the agency," added Chawla.
