A cyclonic storm left a trail of destruction in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh damaging several houses and rubber plantations, official sources said today.
The cyclone hit the villages of Ngorlung, Ruksin and Rayang in East Siang district on friday, sources said.
According to official sources here today, the cyclone uprooted thousands of rubber trees worth rupees several lakh. Rubber is a household name in these villages.
The time for tapping of rubber usually begins from early May.
According to the field officer of Rubber Board of India, stationed at Ruksin, the damage caused by the cyclone would have adverse effect on production of rubber this year.
As per official record a total of 3,50,000 kg of raw rubber was produced last year from 400 hectares of rubber plantation in these areas.
The cyclone also damaged many private and government buildings, fruit bearing trees, bamboo groves besides electric and telephone poles.
However, there was no report of human casualities.
