Commonwealth Games organising committee (OC) chairman Suresh Kalmadi has told CBI that he would appear before the investigators after January 3.

The disgraced Lok Sabha MP was served a notice in this regard on Friday last.

He has, however, expressed his inability to appear before the probing agency now.

The investigating agency wants certain clarifications from Kalmadi regarding contracts given to foreign firms for carrying out overlays work and alleged misappropriation of funds meant for Queen’s Baton Relay in London.

CBI sleuths have also grilled Kalmadi’s three key aides in connection with the scam. Sources said Manoj Bhori, political advisor to Kalmadi, PK Srivastava and AK Sinha, both assistants to the OC head, were called in. They said the trio was called to submit certain documents related to the Games for cross-examination.

“I have only come here to submit some documents sought by the investigating officer. I was not questioned,’’ Srivastava said.
CBI had questioned OC secretary general Lalit Bhanot, Bhure and another official RK Sacheti on Tuesday.

Last Friday, CBI launched simultaneous raids at Kalmadi’s home and offices in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune as part of its ongoing investigations into the multi-crore Games scam.
