Leader of opposition Sushma Swaraj countered attorney general GE Vahanvati, who told the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday that documents pertaining to a charge sheet filed against PJ Thomas in a corruption case were not presented to the high-powered committee, comprising the prime minister, home minister and Swaraj, that appointed him chief vigilance commissioner.

She sought to implead in a case contesting the appointment, saying, “So far I stayed away from the judicial process, but enough is enough.”

An infuriated Swaraj termed the government claim “incorrect”. “I had personally brought this [charge sheet against Thomas] to the notice of the prime minister and the home minister. Now, I’ve decided to file an affidavit before the Supreme Court,” she said.

Swaraj said she had raised the issue of Thomas having been charged in the palmolein case and recorded her dissent at a meeting with the prime minister and home minister.
