Bollywood's much-adored 'angry young man' was in town, and for fans of the superstar, this was no less than a feast for the eyes. Actor Amitabh Bachchan was the absolute cynosure of all eyes on Monday, when he landed in Ahmedabad for the shooting of an advertisement for the Gujarat Tourism campaign at Gandhi Ashram. The brand ambassador of the campaign, Bachchan is expected to shoot for the ad in the city for three days.

Bachchan, who arrived to a warm welcome, took time out after the shoot to take a round of the peaceful ashram. He recalled the time when he was here 30 years back with wife Jaya, as a visitor. Impressed with the serenity of the surroundings and the pictures of the father of the nation, Bachchan penned his feelings in the visitors' book as, 'Ek adbhut anubhav, iss mahan sthal par' (A wonderful experience at this great place), along with his autograph in Hindi.

Big B was presented with three books, including 'Mind of Mahatma Gandhi', his autobiography 'My experiments with truth' and 'Ahimsa ki Khoj' written by Vinoba Bhave, all three in Hindi.

As many as 200 people had gathered to get a glimpse of the superstar. People had gathered in huge numbers on the roads leading to the ashram, blocking the way and making it immensely difficult to drive. Lots of fans thronged the ashram, even climbing its walls to get a glimpse of the actor. While some went home happy, others were visibly disappointed at the tight security arrangements that did not allow people beyond the gate of the ashram.

The media were also not allowed to interview the actor.
Amrutbhai, secretary of the Gandhi smarak sangrahalaya of the ashram, said, "Bachchanji was mesmerised by the peaceful environment here. He took a look around the whole ashram with utmost dedication and interest. He closely observed the photo depicting the wheel of life, created by Vinoba Bhave, and was very much impressed."

Though the ashram was closed to visitors because of the shoot, some people with genuine reasons were allowed, which consisted of a few foreigners and those who had come from very far off places.
