CPI(M) to support its arrested former minister

The CPI(M) today said that it will stand beside its former minister Susanta Ghosh who was today arrested for being accused in a murder case.

"The party will stand beside Susanta Ghosh. It is nothing but political vendetta," senior CPI(M) leader Md Selim said after a party state secretariat meeting this evening.

"We are seeking legal opinion and we will take legal recourse," he said.

The news of Ghosh's arrest reached CPI(M) state party headquarters at Alimuddin Street this evening when the state secretariat was holding its weekly meeting.

The option for Ghosh to move the Calcutta High Court seeking bail was open, the party said.

"He has the liberty to move the high court from tomorrow seeking bail in the case," CPI(M) leader and senior advocate Bikash Bhattacharya told PTI.

Ghosh, the Garbeta MLA and former Paschimanchal Unnayan Affairs Minister has been remanded to CID custody for seven days after being charged with murder.
