Kolkata: CPI-M MP and former Railway Standing Committee chairman Basudeb Acharya today alleged that the railway land at Shalimar in Howrah district was being misused by the railway ministry where a private auto hub project was allowed to be set up.

His statement came a day after railway minister Mamata Banerjee, at the foundation-laying ceremony of the auto hub, had said the project would be set up under a private-public partnership model with the railways retaining ownership of the land.

"Railway land at Shalimar was acquired during the time of Late Madhav Rao Scindia's tenure as railway minister for the construction of a full-fledged terminal of South Eastern Railway. But instead of doing that, the ministry has allocated the land for a private project," Acharya told reporters here.

He also criticised Banerjee's foundation stone-laying ceremony under the Kishan Vision Yojana at Singur, saying it would not come to any help for the farmers.
