A court in Haryana will hear arguments on framing charges against the eight accused in the kidney scam, including alleged kingpin Amit Kumar, on April 29.

The arguments were to be heard today but special judge AS Narang adjourned the hearing of the case for April 29.

All the accused, including alleged kingpin Amit Kumar and his brother Jeevan, were present in court.

Two of the accused have already been granted bail while the others are in judicial custody in Ambala Central Jail.

The CBI had filed chargesheet under various sections of IPC and Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994 around two years back in this regard.

In its chargesheet, the agency said Amit Kumar had been booked in several criminal cases in Mumbai, Jaipur, Delhi and Guntur for conducting illegal kidney transplants.

Using persuasion, tricks and threats, Amit and his aides forced poor patients and labourers to part with one of their kidneys for a pittance which were then sold off to wealthy clients in India and abroad, according to the chargesheet.

Amit had been running a private hospital where he allegedly had conducted kidney transplants.
