A Delhi court today extended the judicial custody of Uttar Pradesh MLA Mukhtar Ansari till July 24 in a MCOCA case for allegedly running an organised crime syndicate.

Ansari, facing nearly 30 cases including BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai murder case in Uttar Pradesh in 2005, was produced before additional sessions judge Madhu Jain who extended his judicial remand.

The MLA from Mau constituency was brought to the national capital from Agra Jail on May 15 on a production warrant issued by the court. He had remained in police custody till May 28.

Delhi police's Special Cell had registered a case under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against Ansari, inter-state gangster Munna Bajrangi and others on November seven last year.

The alleged role of Ansari in running an organised crime syndicate came to light following interrogation of Bajrangi by the Delhi police sleuths after his arrest from Mumbai on October 29 last.

Bajrangi and his two associates are also in judicial custody in the case till July seven.

The BSP had expelled Ansari from the party in April this year for his "continued involvement in criminal activities".
