The court of metropolitan magistrate GM Patel awarded one-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs1,000 each to three persons convicted in a dowry case. The three include the victim's husband Milan Soni, her father-in-law Girish Soni and mother-in-law Sushila Soni. The court has, however, acquitted the victim's two sister-in-laws, Heena Soni and Reena Soni, on benefit of doubt.

According to case details, Surbhi, a resident of Isanpur, married Milan on December 9, 2002. A source said that soon after their marriage, Milan and his family members started torturing her mentally and physically, demanding more dowry from her family.

The source further said that Sonis were demanding a lot of things as dowry from the victim's family members. This included an active scooter, cash, jewellery and utensils.

Moreover, influenced by his family members, Milan also left his wife and his four-year-old son. Surbhi was living with her parents at Isanpur. She later lodged a complaint of dowry against her husband and in-laws.
