Emphasising that there is a need of strong Lokpal Bill, Karnataka Chief Minister DV Sadanand Gowda on Saturday it is the need of the hour for the whole country as people are aggrieved of corruption.

In an exclusive interview with Asian News International, Gowda said, It is the need of the hour for the whole country. So, suggestions of the people should certainly be taken into consideration and there must be a small compromise between the lawmakers and public."

Speaking on the Jan Lokpal Bill , he pointed out that under the  democratic system of the country, the elected representatives  have been given certain powers under the constitution. He said, "The legislation should be brought by the Parliament and the legislatures, so some suggestions, some modus operandi can be given by the public, but they can't insist, they cannot be the lawmakers, as per the constitution."

On the appointment of Ombudsman for the State, Gowda said steps have already been taken in the matter of appointing the Lokayukta and within 10-15 days of receiving the suggestions, the Lokayukta and deputy-Lokayukta would be appointed.

"There is a procedure that we have to write to the Chief Justice of Karnataka, we should write to the opposition leaders, we should seek the advise of the chairman of the legislative council and legislative assembly. So I have written letters to those persons and they will send their names and finally in total after due consultation with these five people, I am going to appoint the Lokayukta," said Gowda.

Speaking on demanding a special status for the Hyderabad Karnataka region, Gowda said it is one of the areas where development needs to be done as regional imbalances are there and lots of funds have been spent for the development of that area. "The state government has also demanded the federal authorities to amend article 371 and give special status to Hyderabad Karnataka region, under article 371," he added. He said that the Government of India had positive responded in the matter.

Gowda also spoke of the steps taken for the development of coastal Karnataka and giving recognition to Tulu and Kodagu languages. Gowda said he is also making efforts to bring all the parliamentarians from the State together over matters relating to the state.

There is no collective pressure in the Parliament by the state parliamentarians from Karnataka, unlike those from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Sadananda Gowda, said he has been making efforts request the parliamentarians of the state to keep aside the party differences and should fight for the development of the state at the centre.

The response has been positive, as demonstrated at a recent meeting of the State parliamentarians with the Railway Ministry, he said.
