Cops to keep a hawk eye on Valentine's Day in Chandigarh

To ensure a trouble-free Valentine's Day, cops will be deployed across the city tomorrow, which is already abuzz with activity with love-struck youngsters flocking the markets to make purchases.

"There will be increased number of check posts in east, south and central parts of the city. Besides, police force will be deployed in strength and our personnel in plain clothes will be keeping an eye on the anti-social elements," SP (traffic and security) HS Doon said today.

Special valentine cards, heart-shaped teddies and soft toys, jewellery items, pendants, cards with songs, perfumes, mugs and photo frames are selling like hot cakes while there is also demand for chocolates, lockets and diamond rings. Red roses and other cut flowers are also in great demand.

"During the past couple of days, our sales have been rising," says Lal, who works at a florist shop in Sector 34 here.

There is also a great demand for e-cards, with many portals luring people with great offers and promising to have gifts delivered at the chosen address well in time. The portals are also offering to send V-Day SMSes.
