Cops now have to tackle speeding biker menace in Ahmedabad

The city police may have heaved a sigh of relief over the peaceful elections in the city. But their work is far from over. They are now gearing up to tackle the menace of speeding bikers on city roads particularly during Navratri. Increasingly, the bikers are turning violent.

Some of them resorted to stone pelting on a police team, and even attacked a mediaperson. A biker was also killed in an accident.

Bhavesh Gandhi was killed on the spot when the speeding bike on which he was travelling collided with a car. Gandhi
was riding pillion while the vehicle was being driven by his friend Deep Bhatt, 18. Sources said that the bike was speeding and
collided with a car coming from the wrong direction. Bhatt sustained injuries.

In another incident a police source in the Gujarat University police station told DNA that a mediaperson, who was trying to take pictures of speeding bikes, was beaten up by the bike riders. Jignesh Vora, later registered a complaint with the Satellite police station. In his complaint he has accused a group of people, who were speeding on their bikes of attacking him.

"They threatened me, took my camera and later beat me up," Vora said.  The Satellite police has arrested one Mausam Banker in this connection. Meanwhile on Sunday night two police men had stones pelted at them after they tried to nab speeding bikers.

Given the rise in menace of speeding bikers, joint commissioner of police, sector 1, Satish Sharma said that the police are ready with an action plan to nab them. Meanwhile, the entire police force of sector-I is carrying  out a combing operation to nab speeding bikers.
