If you are unfortunate enough to fall prey to a financial scam in this entrepreneurial state, you can be rest assured that you will not get your money back. This is even if you are bold enough to come out and complain against the scamsters and religiously follow the proceedings of the case.

This would be a sound theory to draw from close analysis of the recent history of financial scams that have rocked Gujarat and the status of loss recovery.
The Ponzi scam is the most glaring example. This month, it will be exactly a year since DNA broke the story that scamsters duping poor innocent people of their hard earned money in the guise of Ponzi schemes are abounding in Gujarat. We highlighted their modus operandi and clearly predicted that very soon they will default on the promised returns and people will lose their money. Three months later, this is exactly what happened and official complaints in the form of FIRs started pouring in.
In the course of nine months, about 19 cases of ‘ek ka teen’ (tripling your money) were registered. The complaints amount to a scam of Rs120 crore, but sources in the industry and even the cops concede that the actual amount may be upwards of Rs1,000cr. Nearly 40 people have been arrested so far but some agents have been released on bail.
So far, police sources claim they have taken cognizance of about 200 victims but believe the number could run into lakh.  Now comes the tacky part. The cases have moved between three different agencies during this time — first with crime branch; then suddenly they were moved to respective police stations, mainly Navrangpura, and now the latest is all the cases have been handed over to CID crime. l Scamsters enjoy cops’ patronage P6
