A Special Police Officer (SPO) was killed when a bullet hit him accidentally during cleaning of a weapon by his colleague at a police station in Rajouri district of the state, about 150km from here, today.
SPO Anil Kumar was seriously injured after being hit by a bullet from a Self Loading Rifle (SLR) of another SPO Gopal Dass at police station Chingus this afternoon, police sources here said.
The bullet came out from the gun accidentally when Dass was adjusting the magazine in the weapon, they said.
Kumar was immediately taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, they said.
Senior police officers have directed the concerned Station House officer (SHO) of the station to investigate the matter, they added.
