Contraband smuggler arrested with 50 kg marijuana in Lucknow

A member of an inter-state gang involved in the smuggling of contraband was arrested and around 50kg marijuana recovered from him in Gosaiganj area in Lucknow, police said today.

Jogendra Tiwari was arrested and a truck loaded with the contraband was seized from Gosaiganj barrier during checking yesterday, they said, adding that the driver, Sunil Kumar Vishwakarma, managed to flee from the spot.

The seized contraband was being smuggled from the Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh as well as other states, the police said.

They said Tiwari, during investigation, revealed that the gang was being operated by a Faridabad-based transporter and contraband was being supplied to Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab via Uttar Pradesh.
