Constable, five others arrested for Rs64 lakh gold heist in Gujarat

The gold heist worth Rs64 lakh that was reported in the city seemed to be the stuff that crime thrillers are made of.  Unfortunately for the thieves, the police had a different idea about how to end the story.

The Kalupur police and the Detection of Crime Branch, Ahmedabad in a joint operation arrested six people including a police constable for the heist.

They have also recovered the stolen bullion The incident happened when Harish Devashi was robbed of bullion worth Rs64 lakh. Devashi was on his way to Mumbai with the gold when he was robbed. JCP , Sector 1, Satish Sharma told reporters that the police came to know of one Thanaram Devashi, who knew about the complainant Harish's purchase.

Sharma said that the police arrested Thananram from Kalupur Railway station near a tea stall on Saturday and recovered gold worth Rs6 lakh.  "Based on the information provided by him, we later nabbed the other accused and have recovered all of the stolen gold," he said.

Dinesh alias Ballu Mali, a security guard at Infocity Gandhinagar was also arrested. He is believed to be the mastermind. "Ballu made the plan to loot Harish and got some people to carry out the work," Sharma said.

The police arrested, Harish Gohil, an unarmed police constable currently serving at the Ghatlodia police station in this connection.  "Gohil came in his uniform to scare Harish. It was only because of Gohil that Harish agreed to go with him on a bike. Later he was taken near Sughad village on Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Highway and looted," Sharma said.
